In 1585 during the Sengoku period Toyotomi Hideyoshi had a place built in Osaka surrounded by a wall and a moat where prostitutes could gather This is said to be the beginning of the "red light district" At first glance the place where prostitutes gathered may look luxurious and glamorous but it was filled with sad stories of women caught up in lust politics money sexually transmitted diseases and more
"Oiran" were high-ranking prostitutes in the Yoshiwara red light district who survived all kinds of struggles under such harsh conditions
